Squarespace is a website builder tool that utilizes CMS for editing. Our role is to design the system that allows users to make the desired website layouts with the most intuitive editing experience. For the most part, we define layout types based on our users’ needs, and explore the relationship between elements on that given layout. And we identify how to surface these editing options in the product. Different than creating an one-off beautiful website, it requires us to set clear rules and legislate millions of edge cases for the system to work with variants.
